The relationship between a client and a psychotherapist is protected by law, ensuring that information cannot be disclosed without written consent. However, there are specific exceptions to this confidentiality:
- Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse must be reported to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client threatens serious bodily harm to another person, the police and the intended victim must be notified.
- If a client intends to harm themselves, every effort will be made to secure their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, legal measures will be taken to ensure their safety without their permission.
